Style Guide

Following discussions among Total Amiga contributors and proofreaders we have come up with the following guidelines on the usage of certain word within the magazine. The aim of this is to make the language used in articles within an issue, and particularly the technical terms more consistent. This both looks professional and helps prevent misunderstandings (for example where one author uses the abbreviation Gb for gigabyte and another uses GB).

Some rules to follow also makes the job of our proofreaders much easier as they can correct to a "standard" and also not find themselves altering something someone else has already "corrected"!

General Rules

Language

The standard language of Total Amiga is British English and all articles will use British spellings. There are two exceptions to this rule:

  • When quoting the written work of an author in another branch of English, their spelling should be retained.
  • When "quoting" text from a program's user interface (for example in a review or tutorial) the actual spelling used should be retained to prevent confusuion.

Numbers

Numbers less than 10 should be spelt where as numbers of 10 or more should be written in digits. For example:

one
three
seven
10
127
1137624
